We write practical guides on growing vegetables, herbs and flowers at home — covering soil and compost, containers and raised beds, tools, watering, pests and seasonal planning. Every guide is written to be immediately useful in your own garden.

We draw on established horticultural practice and real-world growing experience. We keep things concrete — exact steps, common mistakes, and what actually works in small home gardens, backyards and balconies.

All of our guides are completely free. We keep the site running by showing a small amount of advertising.

RainRoot is run by a small, independent editorial team of home gardeners and allotment growers. The site is self-funded through the advertising you see on these pages: we are not owned by, affiliated with, or paid by any seed, tool or fertiliser company, and no advertiser sees our drafts or reviews them before publication. What we cover, how we test growing methods and which products we mention are editorial decisions made by us alone.

Every guide follows the same process. We start from a question home gardeners actually ask, check the answer against university extension services, horticultural society guidance and our own growing notes, and then draft the guide. It is edited for plain language and concrete steps, checked by a second editor for accuracy and safety, and given its publication date. We re-read every guide at least once a year, and whenever reader feedback or new guidance makes part of it out of date, and we update both the text and its date when something changes.

If a guide is wrong, unclear or out of date, please tell us through the contact page. Corrections are reviewed within a few days; when a change is significant we revise the guide itself and update its date rather than leaving an old version online. Reader questions also shape what we write next, so requests for topics are genuinely welcome.
